The clinic covers Virginia traffic laws, safe driving practices, and defensive driving techniques.

Who needs to take the Virginia Driver Improvement Clinic?

You may be required to complete a Virginia Driver Improvement Clinic if you’ve been ordered by a court or the Virginia DMV. This typically happens when you’ve accumulated a certain number of points on your driving record, been convicted of specific traffic violations, or received a court order as part of your sentence. Some drivers may also choose to take the clinic voluntarily to potentially receive point reduction credit or improve their driving knowledge.

Can I receive point reduction credit?

Yes, completing the Virginia Driver Improvement Clinic may make you eligible for point reduction credit. The Virginia DMV has provisions for reducing points on your driving record upon successful completion of an approved driver improvement clinic. This can help improve your driving record and potentially reduce insurance rates. Check with the Virginia DMV for specific point reduction eligibility requirements. Please note that customers directed by the Court must provide documentation from the court before safe driving points can be awarded.

What topics does the clinic cover?

The Virginia Driver Improvement Clinic covers comprehensive driver safety topics including Virginia traffic laws and regulations, defensive driving techniques and hazard recognition, safe following distances and speed management, the dangers of aggressive driving and road rage, impaired and distracted driving awareness, weather-related driving challenges, proper vehicle maintenance for safety, and understanding the consequences of traffic violations. The curriculum is designed to make you a safer, more knowledgeable driver.

How long does the clinic take to complete?
